All good web sites need a lot of time and devotion to keep them up to date and interesting. Unfortunately for me this past year has been spent more on my work than getting this web site off the ground. I have decided to change the format so that this will become a platform for my own karate interests and links rather than a wider encompassing site.

I still hope to add in more interesting articles as they are created but they probably won't be coming at any speedy rate. The focus will become more towards the style of Wado Ryu as taught by Hironori Ohtsuka II and and associated organisations.

I would like to thank Harry Cook for his offer of help and material. I will be using some of it in time and will write some short notes on his excellent book "Shotokan Karate A Precise History" now that I have read it. All that I can say about it at the moment is that use your money wisely and buy this book. It had a very limited first print but I believe the second edition is already underway with more material.

Please click <Harry Cook talks about karate, student life and everything> to read an interview carried out in 1988 at the home of Harry Cook. The interview covers Harry's beginnings in karate, his time spent at university, Student Karate and his thoughts on the British education system which he became part of whilst working as a teacher.

There is also a series of unpublished pictures taken at an International Students Karate tournament held at Crystal Palace in 1989 which brought the best of Japanese university karate students to the UK. They can be found <International Students Karate championships>.

I have created a short page on the history of Wado Ryu, which will develop as I get more information. Note that this is quite a large page and may take several minutes to download.

I am looking to follow up the Harry Cook interview with a new one in the future. It would be nice to see how his views may have developed. I am also busy transcribing an interview he did with one of my instructors from the North East, Cliff Richmond.

Another word of thanks goes to Tim Stephens from Poole in Dorset for helping me get back into training during 2001 after a short spell away from it all. Tim has been World Champion three times and is one of Britain's best competitors at any level. Furthermore, he is a really nice person who has plenty of time for all of his students and teaches a wide range of karate, judo and grappling techniques (which may surprise some of you).

Now I have got back into training I have started a very small club which trains on a Tuesday and Thursday night at St. Katharines Church. For more information please visit the club web site at: Bournemouth Karate Club.

My most recent work has been to set up an unofficial forum for members of the Wado Academy which can be found here: wado.karateforum.com.
